Lots of storage room shelving systems are custom made. These all timber systems are used to hold heavy products or simply to look excellent. An all wood shelving system might be set up in any closet area, so long as the products are able to affix to the studs behind the wall surface. Some wall shelving systems can be affixed to a full sheet of plywood that is glued to a studless wall surface. By doing this you can protect the shelving to the wall surface whether there are studs behind the wall surface. Always eliminate all wall hangings before setting up any built-in shelving system to avoid damage.
