Fossils are essentially the remains of numerous creatures that lived thousands or countless years earlier. Once these creatures passed away, they were buried in layers as well as layers of earth. While their flesh would rot away, the more difficult parts of their body, such as coverings, bones, etc, would certainly stay intact between the layers of debris. Now, all those years later on, those bones and also coverings can still be found, intact, as those layers of sediment are again discovered.
