Fossils are literally the remains of different animals that lived thousands or numerous years back. As soon as these creatures died, they were hidden in layers and layers of planet. While their flesh would rot away, the more challenging parts of their body, such as coverings, bones, etc, would certainly remain intact between the layers of debris. Currently, all those years later on, those bones and also coverings can still be located, undamaged, as those layers of debris are once again discovered.
